New Pond!

So I want to build a bigger pond for my rays. I am thinking about a 6ft long, 3ft wide and 18 inches tall for the dimensions. Would this be ok for all five of my Hystrix? Eventually I will have something even bigger but for the here and now......and the apartment lol this will do right?
(or should I just go bigger! No Limits! Well......as long as the floor hold it hehe)

Think my floor can hold it? I know it's right over the foundation so I shouldn't have problems.

If your on a foundation, I would go larger! 2' is a good height, too.. you will be able to put it on it's side and carry it out of the apartment when you move..
Even if your on a second floor, it should be able to support a 420g pond. Unless the apartment complex was built with matchstix!

So my fiance' and I might actually move into the much larger apartment that is on the base level of the house. If that does happen it has two bedrooms and one living room so I will have an entire room that I could dedicate to my rays.
If this happens I am going to build a 9'x3'x2' along with my current 5'x2'x18"(which I will use as a growout/pup rearing pond).

Keep in mind, most wood comes pre-cut in 8 foot increments.. so making a 9 foot tank would mean you would have to either by 10 foot boards and cut them down, or make 4.5 foot boards and seam them together.. not worth the extra time/waste/$$$ if ya ask me.. just make 2x 8x4x2' and plumb them together and have them side by side

That is a really good idea! I actually have access to all the wood I want of all sizes for free ^^
Someone very close to me works in construction and would get me anything I wanted.
I like the idea of the two 8x4 together ^^
